SERIES FINALE (episodes 5x12 & 5x13) SPOILERS/DISCUSSION

Postby DarthLocke on Sun Dec 02, 2012 4:02 pm

Alright gang, as promised I made a specific thread for the final two episodes of the series. So please if you come across information about them to either discuss or post, please do so on this thread, so that the people who may want to draw their spoiler lines with finale related info can be surprised. I included both episodes 5x12 & 5x13 for this thread, because they are airing together. Thank you.

5x13 FINALE Title Revealed!
Fringe Series Finale (Season 5 episode 13) title is: "An Enemy of Fate"

http://www.spoilertv.com/2012/12/fringe-episode-513-series-finale-title.html

Really cool title! I think it could relate to Peter or Walter and/or the Observers exclusively and perhaps why the Observers were ever created to begin with. What do you guys think about the title?

Showrunner Joel H. Wyman Explains What to Expect:
The cast and producers of Fox’s Fringe gathered at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancouver on Saturday night to celebrate the Warner Bros. TV series’ 100th — and final — episode. And now we have a title for that ultimate hour.

“It is called ‘An Enemy of Fate,’” series boss J.H. Wyman shared with TVLine on the red carpet.
Episode 100 is the second of two hours airing on Friday, Jan. 18.

And while Wyman leading up to and throughout this final season has repeatedly stressed the emotional stakes for Peter, Olivia, Walter et al during these last 13 episodes, make no mistake — this show is going out with a literal bang as well.

“It’s definitely the biggest season finale we’ve ever had,” Wyman promised. “It’s the most expensive…. It’s massive, really big. I wanted to go out like, ‘Wow, how did they do that?’”
“I wanted to make sure I handled [the action element] and the emotions with equal import,”
he added.

"...as Olivia embarks on a dangerous and otherworldly journey into the unknown."
It sounds like Red universe to me ("Liberty" Island), but which & when red might be a mystery...
Of course it could also relate to the machines too.

UPDATE: She is going to amberverse-red! And at least Lincoln appears to have aged!

Ok Right now there is a discrepancy as to what the 5x13 Finale Title actually is. In a Video, Mr. Wyman seems to say it's "Enemies of Fate" and TV LINE has it "An Enemy of Fate". -I was told by a friend that TV LINE says they confirmed the title with FOX, but until I see more information or confirmation, we'll just say it's up in the air! I personally like the singular better than the plural, only because it seems like it may only allude to "one" singular element, while I am sure there are in fact many, but a singular phrase sounds more resolutionary IMO...When I know for sure what's going on I will come back and confirm it.

Geez, it could mean anything, almost everyone on this show already is an enemy of fate. Walter has certainly been an enemy of fate, in bringing Peter over to the blue universe he changed the fates of both sides. There there was William Bell, who said that if man had the ability to play God he should do so, certainly an anti-fate stance. One of the things September told us was that Olivia was fated to die in every possible future, and nobody wants that to happen. Peter's very existence is anti-fate as he is not supposed to exist. And September is definitely an enemy of fate, he worked with Walter & company to drive out the Observers (although that could have been September's fate. Brain now hurts.)

It really seems like this all encompassing title, since I think we can argue about what is 'Fate' till the cows come home!

I like that idea. During season 2 I thought that the lack of the blue Peter was why there is unbalance. So I think there's a good possibility to that being a key factor, although season 4 alludes that "no Peters" (into adult hood) also could change things greatly, as Walternate was no longer the enemy of the time line, but William Bell was and then somehow we get to the Observer take over...I don't know if things wouldn't have escalated to this point, because "A Peter" comes to exist again anyways, as the new Walter becomes more like the season 1-3 Walter and season 1-3 Olivia's conscience is pulled forward and wipes the other out... :hmm:

But it would be cool if another Peter wouldn't be created, but a Petra (that way maybe blue Lincoln Lee can still be with Red Olivia and maybe the Red Lincoln would live and end up with Petra....and now this sounds like a crazy fan fiction  )

Also I added the 5x12 Title to the top post. It's "Liberty" and may hint at the red universe, or the machines at Liberty Island.....

Liberty!
Good point!
I had come up with a scream of freedom!

honestly
I'm afraid I can go back in time .....
I do not like the idea of an eventual return of the alternate universe.

The worst for me would be the final :scared:
reset all :sneaky:
and the return of 2 peter.

But wasn't that your theory? :S

I hope some kind of reset, time travel, or alternate version of things presents it'self for Etta's (and maybe even Henry's) sake.

I agree that "freedom" is probably a huge theme of that episode, but freedom of what? The Observers, Time, Space, death, mortality, "Fate"? (<----which seems likely considering the finale title!) I can't imagine Fringe won't play with time and alteration one last time...

I think that "An Enemy Of Fate" will be the Observer child who may grow up to be September.

And from what I saw of the set photos and spoilers, I think Peter becoming an Observer problem will be resolved before the finale.

A question: How come Wyman wrote the finale alone? What's Pinkner doing? Did he leave Fringe?

off topic: Darth, actually everyone, go watch Cloud Atlas! It's an amazing movie! The themes dealing with human condition, karma, choices and consequences rippling through time and different lifetimes!

I loved the book Cloud Atlas, -David Mitchell's novels are some of the best! (I also recommend "Ghostwritten" if you liked C.A.) I didn't have time to see the movie though, but it looked amazing! -I'm most anxious to see it on Blu-Ray! :D Glad you liked it! :)

Pinkner had to take a leave as part of the season 5 negotiations (I think I posted the link at the time it was announced on the Fringe News Discussion Thread in the non spoiler section. It shouldn't be too many posts back.) I find it pretty sad since he has been with Bad Robot for 3 shows (Alias, Lost, and Fringe). I don't know if he will be with the company in the future...So Wyman is the official show runner this season (but I am pretty sure he and Pinkner had discussed some possible endings before they parted ways)

Speaking of September and Pinkner, Pinkner is credited on the Encyclopedia (and some), "September's Notebook" coming out in January (although something tells me that could change) So I do think September will be one of the fate changers, especially when one considers he wanted Peter to use the machine and he couldn't bring him self to eliminate Peter from the amber timelines, and from some other amber future, he had gone back in time to try and change it by warning Olivia and having Peter help him with the beacon...

Delve into television’s most otherworldly phenomenon! Fringe: September’s Notebook is a uniquely in-world collection that explores the intricate destinies of Walter Bishop, Peter Bishop, and Olivia Dunham. Gathered by the Observer known only as “September,” these pages reveal new truths about the Fringe Division and Massive Dynamic. The book also closely examines the Amber timeline and the alternate universe “Over There.”

Packed with concept art, exclusive photos, and intriguing ephemera, September’s Notebook will satisfy every serious fan’s hunger for details about the Observers, quirks and little-known facts about each character, insight into Fringe Science, and much more. “Easter eggs” throughout build on the many symbols and codes woven into the show’s fabric, uncovering truths never before revealed.

With its layered storytelling, well-rendered characters, and complex overarching narrative, Fringe is the ideal show around which to publish, and Fringe: September’s Notebook provides a totally immersive reading experience.

Yeah, Mitchell's novels are now on the top of my "to read" list! :D

Wow, I'm totally surprised with Pinkner deciding to leave. I wonder what was the real reason behind it? My powers of observation failed me completely from noticing that he was missing from the crew.

Interesting thing, this September's notebook. So is it like the Lost encyclopedia?

I just think they didn't have enough money (because he was credited as a producer and writer. I think Alcatraz was sacrificed for Fringe too) and I think he might have been interested in venturing elsewhere...

On another note, everyone who is there now is suppose to be apart of the Futuristic Buddy-Cop-Android Drama that Abrams and Wyman have a pilot commitment with FOX. (It would be nice though if Pinkner could turn up on one of the many Bad Robot projects on the table. He just seems like a real sensible producer)

Ya, it seems like it is The Fringe Encyclopedia, except that it seems like they will also include some of the things they didn't have time to get to in the show, which makes it kind of special.
