On the Set: True Blood Raises the Stakes For Its Most Intense Season Yet

Image

Source: TVGuide

Christopher Meloni’s face is splattered with blood. He’s just shot his first staking scene for HBO’s megahit True Blood — and he’s seriously amped up.

“When that blood hit me in the face, I went, ‘This looks awesome!’” Meloni says gleefully. It’s nearly 11pm and it took two hours to set up the shot — called a “goo drop.” A bucket of stage blood (with some latex blobs mixed in for guts) is suspended from a scaffold. Just below it hangs an empty suit of clothes matching what the actor playing the doomed vamp is wearing. As the stake goes in, the bucket empties through the garments, and the bloodsucker is no more. There’s only one chance to get it right. And Meloni nailed it.

The actor’s excitement is matched only by the seriousness of the character he plays: Roman, the 500-year-old head of the Vampire Authority with the weight of the world on his pinstripe-suited shoulders. He’s chief executive not only of the vampire government but of their religion, too. “My first day on set, I recited a prayer in Aramaic,” says Meloni. No separation of church and state here.

“Roman is a politician who has a dream,” explains executive producer Alan Ball. “He was behind the coming-out-of-the-coffin [movement], something that’s been in the works for at least a hundred years. But there are factions in the vampire community who want to go back to the Dark Ages and feed on humans. The biggest arc in Season 5 is the future of peaceful coexistence.” Adds Meloni, “Roman’s determined. He wants peace, but others have been trying to stomp out his path. Think Obama with very long incisors.”

Tonight’s stakee is one of these fundamentalists, a traitor to the Authority who meets the “true death” in the sleekly furnished conference room of an underground New Orleans compound Ball has nicknamed “the Vampire White House,” where Roman and six chancellors govern the fractious vampire community.

Roman’s pursuit of the conspirators will be a treat for Meloni fans who loved watching him solve crimes in his 12-season run as Det. Elliot Stabler on Law & Order: SVU. Says Meloni, “Elliot was free-form. Roman’s more thoughtful — yet unafraid to pull the trigger. He’s a man of action. Get the facts; get it done. But they both have a certainty of their view. They both think they’re right.”

A major obstacle to Roman’s political agenda has arisen, literally, thanks to two bloodsuckers fans know and love: King of Louisiana Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) and Sheriff Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård). At the end of Season 3, the two buried crazed former vampire King of Mississippi Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare) in cement instead of killing him as ordered. Now he has escaped, and Bill and Eric are dragged before Roman for judgment. (It doesn’t help that they also killed the Authority’s Nan Flanagan last season.) They bargain for their survival by offering to track Russell down and bring him in.

When the duo hit the road, “bromance” blooms. “They end up caring for one another,” says Moyer, who will go behind the scenes to direct Episode 8 this season. “Me and Alex are mates, and it’s been really enjoyable actually getting to stuff where we’re not just bitch-slapping each other.”

Bonding won’t make up for the love their characters lost in the season ender when Sookie (Anna Paquin), the fairy-blooded blonde barmaid they’re both in love with, told them she didn’t want to be with either. “Bill has lost the thing that he believed in most, and he now is trying to find something else to believe in,” Moyer says. But apparently he’s not too brokenhearted for some sexy action. Teases Moyer: “There is an unlikely liaison at some point.”

Fans of the Sookie-Bill-Eric triangle, take heart. Mid-season, Sookie teams up with her ex-lovers when they need her mind-reading skills to help question a human witness who saw Russell unearthed. Will she be able to keep her vow and stay away from them romantically? “She’s trying her best to be independent and stand on her own, for better or worse,” says Paquin, who in real life is expecting a baby with husband Moyer. “She wants to eliminate drama from her life.”

True Blood premieres Sunday, June 10 at 9/8c on HBO.

Interview with new Trubie Jacob Hopkins

Image

Young actor Jacob Hopkins is the latest to join the cast of True Blood, which returns to HBO for its fifth season on Sunday, June 10. His character plays a pivotal role this season, as the child vampire of the ‘Vampire Authority’…

You play a young vampire in True Blood, tell me about your character?

I play Alexander Drew. He is described as impetuous vamp who likes to taunt others. He is basically a trouble maker. He was turned at the age of nine. So I’m like an old man stuck in a little kid’s body. But if you want to talk authority, I’ve got authority – I get to taunt the big guys – I’m that important!

The show is aimed at much older audience, are you allowed to watch it at all? If not, how did you prepare for the role?

Well, in human years, of course not! I am not allowed to watch the show. My dad is an actor and my acting coach and he really prepared me for the role. Not to mention, I love vampires. I have books about them and I am very fascinated with them. When I found out I booked the role, I couldn’t stop reading about vampires!

What’s been your highlight of working on the show?

My favorite part was wearing my fangs. When I put them in my mouth I said, ‘Now I really feel like a real vampire.’

True Blood mainly revolves around vampires. If you could be any mythical creature, what would you be and why?

I would be The Eye of Sauron from Lord of Rings because nothing is brave enough to face him.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?

I would have the power of super-speed so I could run on water.

Who is your dream co-star?

My dream co-star would be Johnny Depp because he is a hilarious guy, he can do so many awesome characters and he is such a good actor. My favourite character he does is Captain Jack Sparrow because he was so sarcastic, but heroic and I cheered for him.

What sorts of TV shows do you like to watch in your free time, and which ones would you like to guest star on?

My favorite shows are SpongeBob, iCarly, Good Luck Charlie, Shake it Up and The Avengers Cartoon. If I could be a cartoon, I would love to be on SpongeBob and pull pranks on Squidward. I would also like to be on Good Luck Charlie because it is really funny.

Everything You Need to Know About The Authority on True Blood

Image

We don't know much about these bad boys and gals –– other than the fact that they promote the AVL, use high-tech equipment, and control the vampire monarchy –– but we're dying to know more.
Word on the street is that The Authority consists of seven vampires who are the most powerful blood suckers of all time (well, other than Tom Cruise circa Interview).

Members include:

Roman: The Authority's founder who pioneers the AVL's mainstreaming movement. He also goes by "The Guardian."
Chancellor Drew: An ancient 9-year-old vampire who is known for his hot head and impetuous nature.
Rosalyn Harris: A bold n' beautiful Texan who helped settle the Old West.
Salome: A seductive Biblical sexpot.
Kibwe: A peace-loving gentleman who doesn't like capital punishment.
Nora: Eric's sister and a double-agent within The Authority.
Dieter Braun: An intelligence specialist and cold-hearted interrogator.

The Authority also includes several minions: Molly, Hayes, and Pasteur (who Bill mentioned during his '80s flashback).
So, what is this powerful group of vamps' main objective? Getting along with humans!
"There are two main factions really of the vampire society — the mainstreamers and the fanguenistas," Carolyn Hennesy explained to Wetpaint Entertainment (Rosalyn Harris).
"The mainstreams, the Authority, sees the wisdom of assimilating with society. They outnumber us. They’ve made all these incredible strides in the last 2,000 years, not the least of which is creating drinkable blood, synthetic blood for vampires, well if they can do that, what else? What else can they do to help the vampire society?
"And in order to be a part of that we have to assimilate and mainstream and let them know that we’re not really a danger. And that’s where the Authority is coming from."

Thanks, MissFord  ! I am really interested in the sudo Anne-Ricean idea to have a child-created vampire...In Anne Rice's novels Armand has the appearance of a 15 yr old red head (unlike it's film counter part with Antonio Bandaras cast in the role in Interview with the Vampire), but it's interesting because, besides Armand, it's generally forbidden to make very young Vampires in The Vampire Chronicle Universe, as Claudia was @ 6 (in the books), and her story is sad, as the other vampires plot to kill her, as too young of vampires can't fend for themselves...So I am kind of interested in how Harris has/or Alan Ball will handle this issue...and if Chancellor Drew was 'preserved' for a reason (the human son of Roman perhaps???---which would expound the vampire family relationship themes from human life to vampire...)

This season is really looking mighty good! :D

this kid vampire isn't an original plot but it's gonna be really fun and interesting! and the whole Authority seems very good! Im soooo excited for this season!

here another interview with a new cast member

Exploring True Blood's Fairies: Scoop From New Cast Member Giles Matthey

Image

by WetPaint

Vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, fairies ... we've pretty much seen it all on True Blood. But in season 5, the show will delve deeper into supernatural society, particularly the world of fairies.
While Sookie Stackhouse's fairy godmother was drained of blood last year, she had plenty of siblings to teach Sookie their ways. One of them is her brother, Claude, played by Hollywood newcomer Giles Matthey.
Wetpaint Entertainment chatted with Giles about playing a fairy, the family environment on set, and whether or not he'll shed his clothes on screen.

Wetpaint Entertainment: How did you get involved with True Blood?
Giles Matthey: I was about to fly back to New York ... I was wearing three T-shirts, one turtleneck, and a shirt over top of the turtleneck because my bags were so packed, I couldn’t fit any of the stuff in. I was so sweaty and so hot, and all the other actors looked so good.
I did the audition in front of Alan Ball, and then I was on my way to the airport. I was in the security line and my agent gave me a call and said, "You can’t get on the plane because you got the role and you’re in wardrobe tomorrow and they’re shooting the following day."
And that really changed my life. Because up until that point I had done a bunch of theater and a guest spot on The Good Wife and an indie film. To get a role that I got is a bit of a dream come true really.

We've heard that the True Blood cast and crew is very much like a family. Was everyone welcoming?
I have a lot of scenes with Anna [Paquin] and Ryan [Kwanten]. You see these people on TV and you really admire their work, and then it’s "Oh, hi. I’m Giles." They’re so supportive on that show.
Everyone from the writers to the directors to Alan to the stars of the show like Anna and Stephen [Moyer] and Ryan — these people, they’re fairly big names. You’d expect them to be just so professional and so busy that they wouldn’t have time, but it was just the complete opposite. It really is like watching a well-oiled family unit put this thing together.

What can you tell us about Claude?
He plays quite a prominent role in the books. But True Blood and the Charlene Harris novels they’re very different and there’s no secret to it. Claude is a fairy and he is related to Sookie’s grandfather who was part fairy or even full fairy.
In the book, he was a really pretty bodybuilder/insane body male stripper and just uber hunk. They’ve gone slightly for a different Claude in picking me [laughs]. I don’t have any muscle mass and I wouldn’t say I’m a hunk of 2012 or anything.
Without giving too much away he kind of goes into Sookie being a fairy and what that means to her and what that means to the fairies in general. He has sisters as well, quite a few sisters.
It will be really interesting to see, because last season, the fairies were portrayed in such a way and it will be interesting to see how the audience views fairies in this up-and-coming season and on.

So, we learn more about fairydom?
Yeah, there is a focus on fairies. That’s not exactly a secret, with all the casting calls. I’ve been a real geek because I love to see who’s been cast.
A lot of questions are answered regarding that whole side to True Blood. It’s always evolving. These writers are so good at what they do .... Some of the dialogue is just amazing and borderline outrageous, which is just brilliant.
What else can you say about season 5?
They’re coming to the end of the season .... It’s all building up to something. And I have absolutely no idea what it’s building up to.
You kind of wish you could actually have fairy powers and know what’s going on and hear [the writers'] thoughts so you could be like, "Oh THAT’s what’s happening."

True Blood is known for its nudity. Can we expect to see you shed your clothes this season?
Well, I don’t think many people would want to. It’s hard when you have people like Joe [Manganiello] and
Alexander Skarsgard on the show because if you’re not like that, you’re kind of like, "How the hell can I compete with that?"
But who's to say? I don’t know what they have in store. If they were to say, "You have a scene of that nature coming up" or whatever, they’re so professional and they know what they’re doing. They do it very tasteful.
I’ve seen some of Jason Stackhouse's sex scenes and they don’t leave a lot to the imagination. It’s a very, it’s your primal instinct. That’s why I think it’s so successful because it taps into those primal urges and desires.

You're in L.A. now for True Blood, but your girlfriend is in Chicago, right?
Her name is Hannah Ware and she is currently in a TV show called Boss with Kelsey Grammer. That too, is another great show.
We met at acting school. I think I did my first ever scene at school with her. It’s lovely to be with someone and watch them success and have triumphs and obviously disappointments and failures.
I am in L.A. I’ve been here on and off for about three months. The weather is very nice, but I don’t drive which is really embarrassing. I’m 25 and should know how to drive by now.

Gosh! All of the new characters sound and look fantastic! It seems like we are really starting to get deeper in the mist of the mythology of the show! (which I know is a bit different than H.C.'s, but I really like the prospect of the authority in general!)

I was looking for a video! All I could find was premiere photos! Thanks!

I thought it was interesting that the actor who plays Steve said, "If you haven't been killed off, there's a good chance you will be seen..."

I keep wondering about the warepanthers! --But I also wondered what happened to Steve's wife, Sarah? Or Hadley and her son?! --I think it would be terrific to see everyone that we know that's still alive (and some! ;) )....Boy since Vampires can become ghosts (Eddy), I wonder if Meanads can too? There's a part of me that would love Michelle Forbes to be opposite of Denis O'Hare! :P

--------------------------

I came back because I was wondering who guys think released Russell Edgington? :S I'm def leaning towards Steve Newlin!, but I can't deny there could be someone else who wants to defy the Authority...like that Texas Vamp on the Authority Board (reminds me a little of Stan from season 2 and how he and Isabelle had opposite viewpoints on humanity...)

Sookie's Future, New Romance and 11 More True Blood Spoilers

by TVGuide

True Blood had quite an action-packed Season 4 finale: Sookie renounced Bill and Eric. They killed a Vampire Authority member. Tara took a bullet for Sookie, who shot Debbie Pelt in the head. Alcide murdered the packmaster. Lafayette killed Jesus. Jason revealed to Hoyt that he slept with Jessica. Steve Newlin showed up as a vampire. And Russell Edgington escaped. All caught up?

If your head is still spinning from all that, then Sunday's fifth season premiere (10/9c, HBO) won't make it slow down anytime soon. We're sworn to secrecy from revealing just about anything from Season 5... but the cast isn't! Creator Alan Ball, stars Anna Paquin, Joe Manganiello and more open up about what's in store, including new romance, Tara's fate and the return of the most dangerous vampire on earth: Russell Edgington (Denis O'Hare). Get the scoop:

1. Sookie's future: As if the Stackhouse home hasn't seen enough damage, now there's at least one, possibly two dead bodies in Gran's kitchen— both of which could be blamed on Sookie herself. "She has a lot on her plate," Ball says. "She just blew Debbie Pelt's [Brit Morgan] head off with a shotgun, and her best friend just got shot in the head, so there's a lot to deal with just taking care of those things." Still, that's not to say there isn't hope on the horizon. "Sookie may have renounced both Bill [Stephen Moyer] and Eric [Alexander Skarsgard], but that doesn't mean that there's not other hot supernatural men that are interested in her." Alcide, perhaps? As for Paquin, she says Sookie's decision to give up both Bill and Eric gets "complicated."

2. Bill and Eric team up: After killing Vampire Authority member Nan Flanagan (Jessica Tuck) together, Bill and Eric will really have to rely on each other this season, which may make their shared recent heartbreak easier. "This is the season of the bromance," Ball says. "Bill and Eric have a rocky history, we all know this, and it got particularly rocky when they both wanted the same thing: Sookie. But when Sookie is out of the picture, there just might be hope for friendship." Still, taking on the most powerful vampire organization won't be easy. "You don't want to be on the bad side of the Authority," he adds.

True Blood Trailer: Who dug up Russell Edgington?

3. The Vampire Authority: Speaking of the Authority, Ball likens the organization to "the Catholic Church for vampires," noting that Christopher Meloni's Authority Guardian Roman is quite like the Pope. "The Vampire Authority is the governing body for vampires across the world. They're incredibly old, incredibly powerful, and not very forgiving. If you're a vampire, there's a very good chance they know almost everything about you." There's also a vampire civil war brewing between the mainstreamers, like the Authority, and the Sangunistas, a faction that believes humans are just food. "No pun intended, everything is at stake," says new castmember Carolyn Hennesy, who plays Authority Chancellor Rosalyn Harris. "It's the fate of vampires all over the world — those who want mainstreaming, those who do not — and even the Authority itself is divided. If the Vatican is divided, where do they go?"

4. From bromance to romance: Just because Sookie has given up on Bill and Eric, doesn't mean they'll be without lovin' this season. In fact, they'll both have a new love interest, who just happens to be the same lady. (Déjà vu!) Authority Chancellor Salome — yes, that Salome — will be taken with the duo. "She has a different relationship with both of them," portrayer Valentina Cervi says. "She will have feelings for both of them during the season. She's full of love and needs to be loved." Also, we'll meet Eric's devoted vampire sister, Nora (Lucy Griffiths), also sired by Godric. "She loves him very much," Griffiths says. "She would do anything to make him happy, and she thinks she knows what would make him happy, and it may or may not be right."

5. For the good of the pack: With former packmaster Marcus dead, the pack is now without a leader and they'll certainly be on the hunt to find out what happened to him. Will Alcide take his place as the rightful new packmaster? "[Marcus' death] will cause the pack to split into two factions: One that will immediately worship Alcide as the new packmaster, and the other faction that believes that he has no claim," Manganiello says. "Werewolves are a very tribal and ritualistic bunch, and you will find out this season how deep that goes. Because he didn't do it in the ritualistic fashion, they'll oppose him, and therefore there will be fighting within the pack."

True Blood Season 5 Sneak Peek: Chris Meloni is undead! Eric has a sister!

6. The death of Debbie Pelt: Ding dong, the wolf is dead! Sorry, we've been holding that in a while. But certain characters may not feel the same way as we do. "You know that Alcide's going to find out she's dead, and there will be fallout," Manganiello says. "He and Sookie will deal with it. The question is how he's going to deal with it, which is a very complex emotional web." With Eric and Bill gone, could the time be ripe for Alcide and Sookie to finally get together? "There are some complicated things that need to be dealt with," he adds. "Timing has always been an issue for them, but maybe there's a way through that?"

7. Russell returns! The former King of Mississippi has been rescued from his cement grave, but the question is: Who helped him? O'Hare would only tease that we'll find out sooner rather than later, but added that we may see a different Russell than we have before — one who may not immediately seek revenge on Bill and Eric. "He's never a character who's going to adhere to any conventional thinking," he says. "He's also a guy who has a lot of mixed motives. He gets what he wants and he learns how to forgive when he needs to." But will Russell be making a big public splash once again this season? "He goes public unintentionally," O'Hare adds. "Something happens and he gets caught." Plus: He's getting a new love interest!

8. So, is Tara dead or what? As we previously reported, Tara (Rutina Wesley) will still be on the show, but the big question is how? That will be answered in the season premiere. "We will see a lighter side to her," Wesley promises. "I hope we do get back to that Season 1 Tara where she has that flippant sense of humor that we all love. I just think she's guarded and I know sometimes it comes off as being angry at everyone in the world, but it's all earned."

9. Jessica, all grown up: Since Bill is dealing with the impending vampire civil war, Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) will have the run of Bon Temps. "She's starting to grow up, she's not really a baby vamp anymore," Ball says. "She's going to do what any teenager would do when her parents are out of town... party!" It won't be all fun and games this season, though. Jessica will have to navigate her new relationship with Jason (Ryan Kwanten) — with ex-boyfriend Hoyt (Jim Parrack) watching from the sidelines. "They're extremely attracted to one another, and there's a natural chemistry there, but it was born out of this guilty thing that they did," Woll says. "That's rough and they're going to have to overcome that somehow."

Don't Cry! Check out True Blood's new Season 5 teaser poster

10. Steve Newlin... vampire? The former vampire-hater is now a vampire, but he'll still fit right in. "The role that [the Authority] finds for him in the vampire community is really smart on their choice," Michael McMillian says. But before Steve can get down to business, he has some unresolved issues to deal with. Namely, that Jason once slept with his wife. "He and Jason obviously have history," he says. "Jason was hand selected in Season 2 to be the el primo Soldier of the Sun. Steve has just been fascinated from Day 1. In his eye, to use a biblical reference, Jason is Steve's Adam. But Jason is instrumental to Steve's downfall because he slept with his wife." Fortunately for Jason, he'll have Jessica on his side. "Anytime you try to cause trouble for Jason, you're causing trouble for Jessica," McMillian adds.

11. A Pam-tastic voyage into the past: We've seen how Eric met Godric and how Bill became a vampire, but this season, it's Pam's (Kristin Bauer van Straten) turn. "We're going to see how Pam and Eric found each other and we learn how Pam became a vampire," Ball says. But Pam isn't the only focus of this year's flashbacks. We "even get a glimpse into some of Sookie and Jason's past," he adds.

12. Magic isn't gone! Marnie (Fiona Shaw) may be out of our lives, but that doesn't mean magic is. In fact, Lauren Bowles says, "Those powers are definitely going to be utilized because it's kind of a free-for-all this year. The power of the goddess can be used in many ways and will be relied on."

13. And neither are the faeries! Sookie's faerie family will be back in full force this season, but they're different from what we saw before, according to Giles Matthey, who plays Claude, the brother to Sookie's now dead faerie godmother, Claudine (Lara Pulver). "The role that my character plays is a mentor figure and he cares about Sookie," he says. Still, there are some who aren't pleased that Claudine was drained by a vampire.

The fifth season of True Blood premieres Sunday at 10/9c on HBO.

They released a few pages of script with Jason and Steve...I am def leaning towards Rosalyn Harris...Steve says, he's gay (wink to Russell :S ) and his maker was "a strange women" and since R.H. has resided in Texas for the past 500 years, it makes sense since the whole thing with The Fellowship of the Sun and Godric all happened in Texas...Plus the fact the character's last name is HARRIS, surely can't be a coincidence either! ;) --A lot of the names of the authority vamps seem to stem from Biblical-related names Rosalyn (Rose), Roman (Roman Empire/Romania- Bram Stoker's Dracula via Transylvania), Salome (Women who danced for King Herold and demanded John the Baptist Head as a reward)...

Death by sex would be the only appropriate demise scenario for Sookie’s STEAMY brobro…

by perezhilton

Aussie actor Ryan Kwanten who plays True Blood’s ever-erotically fixated Jason Stackhouse has revealed some disturbing details about his character’s blood-stained future!

Ryan shared a grim outlook for Jason’s future, saying:

“Jason is going to be very lucky to survive this season. He goes through more hell in this season than any other characters combined. Even when I read it the first time, there was a real sense of, God, what the hell are they doing to this guy?”
No no no!! Our hearts cried when Tara’s death seemed imminent, and now Jason might be meeting his sexy end?!

Curses.

This season sure is shape-shifting up to be a real human nail biter

KRISTIN BAUER VAN STRATEN DISCUSSES PAM’S RELUCTANT ENTRANCE INTO MOTHERHOOD

by Hollywood

This is going to be a big year for Pam de Beaufort. True Blood’s prickliest lady vampire just entered the world of motherhood, even if the joy of becoming someone’s Maker was lost on her. After witnessing Pam turning Tara – her mortal enemy – into a vampire – the thing Tara hates most – fans were naturally brimming with questions. Luckily, Hollywood.com was able to catch up with actress Kristin Bauer van Straten and she was willing to explain the situation a little more thoroughly.

“I don’t think it will ever look exactly like my mother from Wisconsin,” laughs van Straten. We wouldn’t expect Pam’s turn as a motherly Maker to appear so wholesome, and according to the actress it won’t. “We were watching a documentary last night on Africa, and we saw the crocodile mothers carrying their little babies in those huge jaws and I thought, ‘That’s a little bit more like what Pam will be,’” she says. While it’s hard to believe that Pam could eventually get there, van Straten insists that somewhere under the surface, Pam has “some room for caring about someone besides Eric.”

Of course, it won’t be easy. “The person she wanted to kill more than anyone – maybe except Marnie — she has to now have as her kid. So, she would only do that for Eric,” she says. “Pretty much all of her actions this year are to try and get back with Eric.”

But as we saw in the June 10 premiere, familial love in vampire circles doesn’t translate the same way it does in human circles. It was in the season premiere that we witnessed Eric having furious vampire sex with his “sister” Nora – they are siblings because they were turned by Godric, not because they were born of the same mother. Apparently, this is just a reality we’re supposed to get used to.

“It’s pretty blurry in the vampire world,” says van Straten. “So, brothers and sisters was fine. Cousins? Great! Mortal enemies? Even better! … Vampires are rock stars and royalty,” she adds. Alright, but what about Maker-father and Progeny-daughter? Pam has always looked at Eric with a more than daughterly gaze, and the process of creating a vampire is such a sexualized, intimate ritual. Perhaps their relationship wasn’t always so… instructional?

Pam’s real world counterpart wasn’t so forthcoming about what exactly future episodes might teach us about Pam and Eric’s past, but she did note that a few revealing flashbacks are on their way. “At this point, over a century, [her relationship with Eric is] very close and very paternal,” she says. “But we also, in the flashbacks, see why she has such a loyalty.” Perhaps the “why” will add a little complication to their already complex relationship.

Of course, it’s not all pensive flashbacks and motherhood for Pam. The writers made sure to keep our favorite testy vampiress equipped with killer one-liners, like that one referring to Sookie’s er, anatomy (“How can you ever beat super snatch, you know?” jokes van Straten). And of course, there’s that fantastic Wal-Mart sweat suit. “That probably is one of my favorite Pam wardrobes, ironically … We put that outfit on in the wardrobe fitting, and burst out laughing. Like, ‘Oh my God, I don’t think we have to continue. This is the most perfect thing I have ever seen,’” she laughs.

Kristin and her fellow vampires return to HBO next Sunday, June 17 at 9 PM ET for the second episode of Season 5.

more to come :)

So I was told from another person based on an interview that Roman is only in a few episodes? :scared: --There was some interview? -I couldn't find it. Do you know where something like that is stated, Miss Ford? I know C.M. is filming a couple of films and that TB is finishing up the season, but I was surprised to hear he won't be that many more episodes and I was just wondering if this is really true, or if the person I chatted with was over-assuming?? :hmm:

Valentina Cervi on seductress Salome and her love for Bill and Eric

Image

True Blood’s Russell Edgington is on the loose, and apparently, there are only two vamps truly capable of taking him down… again.

With the news that the most psychotic vampire is once again free to wreak havoc on the world, The Authority decides to enlist Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) to hunt Russell (Denis O’Hare) down. First, however, Roman (Christopher Meloni) needs to see if the dynamic duo from Bon Temps can be trusted, which is why he’ll turn to his own trusted right-hand vampire, Salome (Valentina Cervi), to get the dirt.

But whose side is Salome really on? TVGuide.com turned to the Italian actress who portrays her to discuss her new relationship with both Bill and Eric — which is almost as dirty as Season 4’s dream-sequence threesome — her role in the impending civil war against the Sanguinistas and what Nora’s (Lucy Griffiths) betrayal of The Authority really means in the long run. Plus: Get the scoop on original vampire Lilith below:

We briefly met Salome last week. What can you tell us of how she fits into the Vampire Authority?
Valentina Cervi: She is the right hand of Roman at the beginning. She shares a very special intimacy with him, so they have a layered relationship. Every vampire has a different agenda in The Authority, and of course, we’re all next to Roman, but the interesting thing is that everybody has his or her own way of thinking, and when the season goes on, you will find out where everybody stands, and who everybody stands next to. Of course there’s a lot of Biblical and historical references because they have inspired Salome from the biblical Salome. She’s been a victim since she was a kid. She was sold by her mother when she was a kid, so she has a lot of hate in her, and she brings that hate and that need of love with her in the season.

How is this Salome different from what we know of the Bible?
Cervi: Talking with the writers, we all agree on the fact that she has been betrayed as a kid. So today, she has this very complicated and sexual relationship with human beings. She can’t trust them. That’s why when she became a vampire, she could, in some way, stand up for her rights, and that’s where all her anger, her fear and also her pain comes from, from the betrayal that she received when she was a kid.

What do Salome and The Authority want from Bill and Eric?
Cervi: There’s an apparent reason and it is to bring them on her side. She wants people to be on her side, and she understands who people are. At the beginning, she can’t really trust Eric. She knows Eric, she knows everything from his past, and she knows about Godric and Nora. With Bill, she feels that he is someone she can, in some way, manipulate more. At the same time, she respects Bill more because she sees his heart and she knows that he has a good heart. She’s really intrigued by him. She will have feelings for both of them during the season. It’s not that she wants something; she’s a loving character, even if it doesn’t seem like it. She’s full of love and needs to be loved. It’s complicated.

Does she actually have feelings for them or is she just using them?
Cervi: Things will develop and will change in the course of the season. At the beginning she is just cool. She is just testing the ground with both of them. In [this Sunday’s episode], she is real. What she says is real. Of course she has her agenda, but I think that deep inside, she really feels for Bill, and for Eric in a different way, because she can’t trust him. Being a control freak as she is, she wants to know where everybody stands and she doesn’t know if he could stand next to her.

How will Roman feel about that?
Cervi: Roman and Salome have been together forever. They’ve been together in a previous life. He’s her father, her lover, her best friend. She respects him and admires him and also has a real vision of who he is. She can speak to him boldly, you’ll see throughout the season.

What role will Salome play in the upcoming vampire civil war?
Cervi: Her main role is to protect Roman at the beginning. She really tries to guide Roman, almost like she wants to save him. She wants to make him be the best he can and so I feel that Salome’s the big mother — with all of the consequences that being a mother is. It doesn’t mean she’s a good mother, but it means that she feels for the person she has around and even if she has a sort of childish relationship with Roman and can [waver] in their intimacy, she really wants to protect him. Of course, what they show publicly is not what they share intimately.

Would she ever want to take his job as Guardian?
Cervi: I don’t think so. I think she’s a very strong believer, and so she would die for her beliefs, but she’s not thirsty for power. She wants the Vampire Bible to be really respected and with all the consequences that it will bring.

Salome was close with Nora. Is there a chance Salome may decide to switch sides to the Sanguinista movement?
Cervi: We don’t know what Nora’s plan really is right now, but the thing is, she is like my sister. I sponsored her Chancellorship at the beginning, and so her betrayal really hurts me. We will see who stands on whose side. Not everything is what it seems. I think she loves Nora as a sister and she feels incredibly bad, but I also think that everybody has to do what they have to do, so they’re going to have an explanation afterwards of why Nora did what she did. Who knows that what you see is what it seems? Maybe there’s another backup plan.

I hear we’ll actually meet Lilith this season. How does Salome feel about this person coming in and saying she’s the original vampire?
Cervi: Salome really believes that Lilith is The Goddess, that Lilith is the God that we have to trust, and follow, and believe everything that is written in the Bible is true.

What kind of vampire is Lilith? Is she everything that Salome imagined?
Cervi: Yes. She is the mother of everybody and people will see that in a different way. Vampires will perceive her in a different way. When Lilith appears, she’s everything that we all think she is. She’s this beautiful, seducing, motherly goddess, and then a lot of things are going to happen. I can’t reveal too much, but it’s not what it seems, and even we will be very surprised. You believe in something and then suddenly things change, then you find yourself in a crisis, but it’s great fun. It’s great fun because it really leaves all the doors open for the characters to explore different sides of their personality and different sides of life, if you can call that life.

True Blood airs Sundays at 9/8c on HBO.
