It has quite a bit of humor, but for the most part, the show is pretty much a drama. The show takes itself seriously, but not to the point where you are rolling your eyes and saying "yeah right" laughing.

remember that the books are taken from Sookie's point of view and if the show just showed sookie, it wouldn't of made it past episode 4! it's the other characters as well as sookie that makes the show and like all media that has used books to create shows and movies, things to change for time or money. i think they have changed a few things but kept the the stories. season one could of been the first books as the pilot and then made different stories altogether for the show. i'm up to book 6 and i think they are doing an amazing job at the series.

My True Blood book just arrived from Amazon today! Excited to finally read it! I don't think I'll like it quite as much as the show, but I'm giving it a go. :)
