Yet for all their evolution, they form no bonds.
Love does not exist for them. They are incapable of dreaming,
Of contemplating beauty, Of knowing something greater than themselves.

As I've said before...I have mixed feelings about a film adaptation of The Dark Tower. Recently I watched the film version of "The Stand" on Sifi.....It was horrible...just a complete slap in the face to the novel. Now, I realize the The Stand was a television miniseries and that a film version of The Dark Tower would be treated much better....but I remember thinking how hard it would be to make the series into a film(s) back when I was reading them.

Viggo Mortenson would be the best choice to play Roland in my opinion.

I hope that they go ahead and make TDT into a movie. Even if it's terrible, it won't diminish my enjoyment of the books.

Did I hear correctly that there's going to be an 8th novel in the series??!!??

Yeah, "The Wind Through The Keyhole", I believe it is suppose to be set between two of the former novels 4 and 5 I think???

Finli O would know! :)

I had to laugh at how the article said that Akiva G. was "hacking away" at the novels!! This sounds like it turned into a money issue which doesn't surprise me. In these times of tight budgets, it will be interesting if The Dark Towers can be made into a series of movies at all. I actually think they could be with the right studio behind them and people who have a true investment in Kings books and what they represent.

The article doesn't mention Ron Howard so I wonder if he will stay on board as director even as the project is pushed back?

Thanks for the new info Darth. :) Well, like I mentioned earlier....the $$ were adding up and Universal got scared.

I agree with Howard that this could be the first story line told that could encompass a mass media undertaking of many venues all at once.....movies, television, video games, graphic novels, etc. I wonder what King thinks of all of this.

An actor for Roland will all depend on schedules and while I still hold out hope for blue eyed Viggo , I think Javier would be cool too. Whoever takes on the role, they will have to sign on for the whole ride though and that may be a stretch if they don't do these films back to back.

That has "epic" potential....I wonder if it will actually happen? Probably not..and if it does, I have a feeling that I will be extremely disappointed. The studio will be too scared to give them the money they need to properly make The Dark Tower.

yeah, I just think that it's "too epic" and no one will want to take a chance on it because. let's be honest, there is a huge potential for failure...no matter who is behind it. Everything will have to be done just right to make it work, and just one film is not going to get it done. Personally, I think it would take at least three 2.5 hour films to do it justice.

Good, I hope this current project dies a slow and painful death. Ron Howard, Akiva Goldsman and Javier Bardem as my Roland? Turble, just turble.

Yep, Universal dropped it. And as much as I would love to support and be excited about a DT film project, I've slowly started to realize that it's probably a terrible idea.

If anyone wants to see the story visually realized, I recommend the comic book series. They are fantastic. After basically telling the entire story in between the flashbacks to Mejis and Book 1, they have begun adapting the main series finally!

I think it would be a better idea to properly remake The Stand...much more attainable...and it deserves a proper cinematic retelling after the turd show that was the mini series.

hbo should just do it game of thrones style...i dont want the guy that did the da vinci code anywhere NEAR roland & his ka-tet....
You owe the companies nothing. Less than nothing, you especially don't
owe them any courtesy. They owe you. They have re-arranged the world to
put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission,
don't even start asking for theirs.

Can you just imagine all the different settings that have to be included?

Desert wasteland
inside the mountain and the mountaintop
a beach front where basically the entire 2nd book takes place
New York City (In 4 different decades)
a forest (1st part of book 3)
City of Lud (a New York City in ruins type of set)
the "game of thrones" style of setting with the Winterfell and The Wall type castle settings
the story of Mejis (Book 4) would need a unique setting
the calla setting (Book five) would also need a unique setting
countryside Maine and Kansas
and not to mention the setting that would be needed leading up to the Dark Tower in the finale

That's a lot of different looks for one series of movies.
