Fixed ;)

LOL. I have nothing against her, but I do wish somebody else was cast. But perhaps she will surprise me. Rob Marshell directed her pretty well in "Nine"... Or maybe I will get what I want later and she won't be in number 5! :)

Agree. But the 4th movie is from the past. Before he met Will and Elizabeth, that's why they are not included.

It's not a prequel, but the characters existed before the time of Will and Elizabeth so it does play on a back story...There's an anthology coming out which is said to have six stories through out the course of the films and before Curse of the Black Pearl...

and then also a prequel novel is being released The Price of Freedom

Amazon is out of stock of Six Sea Shanties, but appearently it is released...

Havr any of you guys seen or read it?

I don't know because I haven't seen it yet, but it seems like a good possibility since the featurettes seem to suggest there is something "star-crossed"/fated about the two...

Yes, remember that Syrena dove into the water and brought Jack the sinking chalices? Well she was taking Philip to the Fountain of Youth to save him. That is what I believe though, I believe it was left rather ambiguous so that you could wonder if she killed and ate him or saved him. I'm pretty sure she saved him though!

I still have yet to see it, but spoiled myself rotten with the latest posts at Pirates of the Caribbean Encyclopedia (online), and it claims she saves his life, but says more specifically, she made it so he could live under water with her... :w00t:

I'm pretty sure the fountain was destroyed. Jack took the last few drops. Still, I think she didn't eat him. She's different, just like he is.

Stuff I just recently found out...

In some mermaid mythology, whenever a mermaid kisses someone, that person is allowed to breath underwater for all eternity. So Syrena made it to where Philip could breath and stay underwater with her forever. That makes a lot more sense then her killing and eating him.

I think it' pretty cool that they used something from what they wrote in 2006 and make it apart of the film franchise, as "The Siren Song" introduces the mermaids into the POTC mythology, and then continues on with the sword of Cortes, which if one read On Stranger Tides (Tim Powers) you can see how they have been using his work as a basis for the whole series with a dash of Jules Verne thrown in. (Disney loves Jules Verne). it's also very interesting that Philip chooses to name her Syrena, when they agents of sirens who live with the Isla Serina! -Oh and the sirens derives from Davy Jones Locker (which we have to wonder about considering Will is in charge of the passage of the dead now...)

If you are interesting in POTC mermiads, here is the POTC Encyclo. page for "The Siren Song" and for POTC mermiads and sirens in general:
