Reviewing Supernatural from the beginning

Postby Bec666 on Wed Jun 01, 2011 1:05 am

Since we've got all Summer to kill I thought we'd start at the beginning and work our way over the years.

First up would be: Season One - The Pilot

I was hooked the minute Mary went into the room and saw 'John' standing over the crib. I loved the flash back and then the jump to present time. I always kind of wish we got to see more of Jess. She and Sam were so cute together.

How many of you remember what Sam scored on his LSAT's? :)

I was struck by how very solid the pilot was. It's rare that a show draws you in so completely so quickly but this one sure did. I loved the set up with Mom and Dad and the boys and then when they flashed forward, I loved the interaction between the grown up Sam and Dean. Jensen and Jared made you believe they were brothers from the get go. And yes, I thought Sam and Jess were perfect together. It's a shame we didn't get to see more of her.

As for the LSAT's...no idea. I'm lousy with numbers! :P

I was drawn in mainly becuase Jess dies and the use of classic rock. So few shows have that type of music and they rarely kill of love interests - especially not in the first episode. It also reminded me a little of the X-files, which I had enjoyed. That and the brotherly chemistry got me of to a great start.

No idea for the LSATS. :)

The classic rock and the funny comments really helped!

The music rocked, and I loved how the two brothers played off each other. As for the LSATs, no one??? :)

The music definitely rocked...it was sorely lacking this season. I really wish they'd get back to that feel.

I don't know how you couldn't be hooked from the first five minutes. Kripke really set the bar high for pilots for me after that. The entire mary scene and the way that flashback ended with the zooming up on John with the two boys- then the cut to Sam at college. BRILLIANT

It really is one of my favorite episodes. I love how they set up the dynamic between the boys. Within the first episode dean was already one of my favorite tv characters EVER.

and baby sam! I always forget he was that small and innocent. so amazing.

I have a question - Is the LSATs a code of honor thing or can we search it on google?

Ok so we can move on to the next episode I'll give the answer. Sammy scored a 174 out of a possible 180. :)

Season One - Wendigo

Original Air Date—20 September 2005
Following their father's coordinates, Sam and Dean end up at Blackwater Ridge where a group of campers are missing. Looking into previous disappearances, Sam and Dean find they are dealing with a Wendigo who now threatens the lives of one of the missing campers sister, who is out searching for him with the assistance of the brothers.

This was always one of my favorite episodes. I loved the interaction between the brothers and the Wendigo has always been a favorite creature of mine. I liked the fact they didn't really show it until the end too. Of course that was because Kripke hated the way it looked but hey, it worked. :) Dean had some great lines too. "Oh Sweetheart, I don't do shorts." :w00t:

BTW, what were the coordinates Dad left for Blackwater Ridge? :)

Thanks for the tag, I'll check it out on Twitter. I'm rewatching the show this summer. And here's a hint on the coordinates, Dean told the sheriff it was his high school locker combo in episode one. :)

I like this thread a lot since I have just started watching SPN (for the first time), so I can even participate in a discussion :D Last episode I watched was episode 9 of Season 1 and it's my favorite episode of the season so far.

Anyhoo, I liked Pilot. Nice introduction to the series and awesome songs. I didn't like Wendigo that much, except for the Wendigo scene at the end. The rest was kinda stretched and boring.

I LOVE Wendigo...I thought it perfectly captured the "horror movie of the week" feel Kripke was originally going for and not showing much of the creature just upped the scare factor. I loved how we got to see the brother's relationship growing and Dean nudging Sam through the tough times after Jess's death. Sigh...what an awesome big brother!

I think the coordinates were 33, -111?
