I've just started to watch it.. I feel as abbyrose and keep thinking that the mum from MitM is about to appear and demand "Hal? Is that you under that moustache?" :D

Nonetheless I agree it's looking good

Yeah, Cranston is amazing in this. I believe he won an emmy for his Season 1 preformance.
He looks so awesome with that hat and the sunglasses at the junkyard!

Episode 202 - "Grilled"

Postby Finli Otego on Wed Mar 18, 2009 2:39 am

Okay. How the hell is this show not more popular? It's one one of the best written and acted shows I've ever seen. I really can't believe it's on AMC, and not HBO or Showtime. It really is on the same level as The Sopranos and The Wire, in my opinion. I just hope they keep making it. But something tells me they will only be able to stretch out Walt's cancer for another 2 seasons at the most. Ah well. On with Sunday's amazing episode!

I've decided to do short recaps for this show from now on, with the hope that it will get a few more people into it.
Last week, in the Season 2 premiere, we were left with a cliffhanger ending when Walt and Jesse were driving off with the psychopathic Tuco pointing a gun at them from the backseat. We pick up this week with another one of those eerie, scenic flash-forwards. This time we see Jesse's lowrider in the desert covered with bullet-holes, stuck hopping up and down, hundreds of bullet casings on the ground, and an un-identified body next to the car. The build-up to that image is one of the most tense 45 minutes I've ever experienced watching a TV show, and it was brilliantly executed.
This episode takes place, I'm assuming, the next day after Walt was picked up by Jesse and a gun-toting Tuco. Skylar, Marie, and Walt Jr. have made posters for the missing Walt, and Hank starts helping out soon after. He finds out about Walt's connection with Jesse (Skylar thinks he's Walt's pot dealer, remember?), and talks to Jesse's mom. With a make on Jesse's lowrider, he uses the "LoJack" on it to track it. Don't ask me how that works.
We find out through Hank that the DEA has raided Tuco's place, and taken everyone in but him. Hank motivates his team to find Tuco, but he doesn't expect anything. This is the reason why Tuco snatched up Walt and Jesse, to see if they're rats.
We pick up with Tuco, Walt and Jesse in the middle of a desert outside a small house, which I assume is quite a ways away from home, seeing as how they have been driving all night. Tuco escorts them at gunpoint into the house, where an incapacitated old man on oxygen and in a wheelchair is sitting in front of a TV. He communicates through a little bell next to his finger, which rapidly became my favorite part of the episode.
Tuco "grills" them about whether they snitched on him or not, but is eventually convinced that Gonzo is the snitch.
(Some explanation: Gonzo is the big guy who was accidentally killed in the junkyard while hiding the body of the guy who Tuco killed in front of Walt and Jesse. Tuco doesn't know that Gonzo is dead, only that he is missing. This works to Walt and Jesse's advantage.)
Tuco gives them an ultimatum: they flee to Mexico with him to cook meth 24/7, or he kills them both right now.
While he's making burritos, Walt and Jesse try to quietly come up with a plan. This leads to the most darkly funny moment of the episode, with Jesse trying to convince Walt to "hit him over the head with something". Cut to Tuco slamming a giant hunting knife into the counter. That's not gonna work. Their next plan is to try and get Tuco to take some the poisoned meth they made in the last episode. Another ultra-tense moment when he almost does it. That didn't work either. Okay, so they successfully put it in his burrito when he's not looking. They're on the home stretch now...he's holding it up to his mouth...*DING!*
The god damn old man. He saw them do it, and now he's trying to warn Tuco. Luckily, Tuco doesn't get the entire message, he just thinks the old man wants it for himself.
A little while later, Tuco is having his idea of fun (shooting cows with an automatic weapon), when *DING!*
He tries to ask the old man whats wrong, but he just keeps pressing that bell and staring hard at Walt and Jesse. Tuco finally gets the message.
"Are the trying to punk me?"
*DING!*
Tuco grabs Jesse, and violently drags him outside, and proceeds to beat on him, asking Walt what they did. With Jesse on the ground bleeding with a gun to his head, Walt doesn't know what to do. Until, that is, he sees Jesse grab hold of a very large rock in the sand. And now comes my favorite line in the episode, delivered by Walt to grab Tuco's attention:
"We tried to poison you because you are an insane, degenerate piece of filth and you deserve to die.”
And BAM!! Jesse clocks him with the rock, and they're wrestling around on the ground. Walt grabs the rifle and tries to get a shot in at Tuco, but Jesse's in the way. Jesse manages to grab the pistol from Tuco's pants and shoot him in the gut. They stand over him, bleeding and moaning, but neither has it in them to finish the job. "Let him bleed."
And just when you thought it couldn't get any crazier, here comes some random car. Walt and Jesse hide, while Tuco stumbles toward Jesse's car. When the mystery person shows up, it's none other than Hank, who's tracked Jesse's car to this location. He recognizes Tuco, and they have a very short mexican standoff before all hell breaks loose. Hank finally gets him where it counts, and it's goodbye forever Tuco. Now we have the image from the beginning. The bullet-filled lowrider bouncing (Tuco hit a switch on accident), and the body we now know is Tuco lying next to it. Walt recognizes Hank, and he and Jesse make a run for it. In the middle of the desert. With no supplies. Bummer.
Hank checks out the mess, and then from a distance we hear: *DING!* *DING!* *DING!*
And that's it.
When all was said and done, I absolutely LOVED this episode, and can't wait until next week!

My boyfriend loves it. I've half watched the last few episodes and they're really really good.

Then you should watch season 1. Only 7 episodes, so that's no big deal. ;)

We're on episode 8, and this is still the best thing on TV besides LOST, IMO.
By the way, 208 - "Better Call Saul" has one of my favorite teasers of any episode of any show. So. Damn. Great. And wasn't that Hurley's best friend playing the Fed?
