If You've Read "Under the Dome"...

Postby Bella on Sun Jan 17, 2010 2:52 am

...who would you cast in all the pivotal roles if (and when) it were made into a movie?

Dale "Barbie" Barbara:
Julia Shumway:
Jim "Big Jim" Rennie Sr.:
Jim "Junior" Rennie Jr.:
Eric "Rusty" Everett:
Linda Everett:
Colonel Cox:
Andy Sanders:
Andrea Grinnell:
Rose Twitchell:
Doug "Twitch" Twitchell:
Howard "Duke" Perkins:
Brenda Perkins:
Carter Thibodeau:
Rev. Lester Coggins:
Rev. Piper Libby:
Ginny Tomlinson:
Sammy Bushey:
Phil "Chef" Bushey:
Romeo Burpee:
"Scarecrow" Joe McClatchey:
Norrie Calvert:
Benny Drake:
Thurston Marshall:
Carolyn Sturges:

There are many, many more characters (as you know if you've read the book), but I chose the ones who I felt were most important. Feel free to cast any characters I left out, as well.

The only character whose possible portrayer jumped out at me was Jeremy Renner, from various movies like The Hurt Locker and 28 Weeks Later. IMO, he'd be perfect as Barbie.

I had a few people in mind when I was reading it, but I can't remember now. :(
But good call on Jeremy Renner for Barbie.

Dale "Barbie" Barbara: Jake Gyllenhaal

I'll post more as I think them through

I had a thought when I was reading this post the first time. For the role of "Scarecrow" Joe McClatchey my first thought was Leonardo Dicaprio in Basketball DIaries. I would pick someone different if filmed now, but Leo from Basketball Diaries would be perfect.

Leo was too old in the BDs, though. Joe is only 13, so it would have to be Leo from his Growing Pain days...lol.

And ew, I have to say I most heartily disagree with your choice of JG. I can't see it, myself.

Damnit....I didn't mean Joe. I feel like an idiot for saying that now. I meant Leo from BD for the role of "Chef" Bushey

The reason I said JG for Barbie was because I watched Jarhead this morning. LOL. Jeremy Renner is an EXCELLENT choice for Barbie.

-- Merged Double Post --

Edward Norton wouldn't be a bad fit for Barbie IMO.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh... now THAT makes sense! I can see a skinny LC in Chef's role! Although, they'd definitely have to ugly him up, since Chef was such a disaster. (Btw, don't feel like an idiot!)

And thanks! I pretty much "saw" Jeremy Renner as Barbie the entire time I was reading.

I just got the image of "junkie" Leo from Basketball Diaries when I was thinking of Chef. I know he's probably not the right guy for that type of role. I can't really see Leo as a junkie and a Jesus warrior. LoL. Besides, he's probably too big of a golden boy to play this role now.

I've been trying to think of someone that could play big Jim Rennie, but I'm drawing blanks. I thought maybe Billy Bob Thornton could pull it off, but he doesn't really fit the physical dimensions of the character. He could defintely play the character though. He's played villians before, but I think they would need someone able to play very evil because Big Jim Rennie was one the most ruthless characters that I've read. Probably an unknown would be needed.

Yeah, I agree with you on that. The only guy I could envision even a bit was the dude who played Boss Hog in the old show Dukes of Hazard! But a) he's dead, and b) I don't think he could be quite evil enough.

I actually think Leo could do Chef... but he'd have to lose some weight, because he's not as skinny as he used to be, and Chef needs to be emaciated.

I totally saw John Travolta as Rennie! He can play pretty dark & evil. I was having a hard time putting anyone else in place. Couple of suggestions did come to mind (not so sure they would work though)... Meryl Streep as Julia Shumway, Glenn Close as Mrs. Perkins, Giovanni Ribisi as Chef. I really had a hard time placing Junior. I will post more as they come to me.

Interesting... Travolta as Rennie! Hmm... padded up and aged a bit, it could work.

Meryl Streep is too old to play Julia. Isn't she (Streep) in her 60s? Julia was only in her early 40s.

OMG! Giovanni Ribisi would be PERFECT as Chef! Right on!

Glenn Close as Mrs. Perkins could definitely work!

I agree about Meryl/Julia. I was just brainstorming.

I was watching Criminal Minds (Episode 1) the other night & saw DJ Qualls (from "The new Guy") as a psychopath! He would make the perfect Junior!

Excellent choice!! That would be the perfect casting for Big Him if a movie were made.

Another good one would be the guy that played Cam in American History X....Stacy Keach is his name.

Okay. For Barbie I saw Wentworth Miller the whole time I was reading. Jon Voight would be perfect as Big Jim. Those are the ones I have so far.
