My 2011 Book Reading List

Postby Joshua on Sat Jan 01, 2011 12:50 pm

The purpose of this thread is for you to be able to keep a list of all the books you've read in 2011. That way, you and everyone else will be able to see what you've read, and come Dec 31 2011 you'll be able to count how many books you read this year!

So make a post, start with the book you first read in 2011 and edit as you go through the year (with ratings and comments too, if you like!)

You can find the 2010 Book Reading List here!

Don't forget you can do the same thing with your movies too. Join My 2011 Movie Viewing List here too.

Ok! Lets see if I can do better than last year and keep up with this thread!

2011 Book List:

The Star Rover (The Jacket) by Jack London---Completed
The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick---Completed
Of Love and Evil by Anne Rice---Completed
Timeline by Michael Crichton---Half Way
The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells (Reread) ---Completed
Clara's Grand Tour by Glynis Ridley---Completed

The Dark Tower: The Wizard and Glass by Stephen King--- Completed
The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub ---Put Away For Christmas/Dec.
Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin--- Completed

Grave Sight -(Book 1 in the Harper Connelly Mystery Series) by Charlaine Harris---Completed
Grave Surprise -(Book 2 in the Harper Connelly Mystery Series) by Charlaine Haris---Completed

Notes: The Invention of Hugo Cabret is currently be made into a film directed by Martin Scorsese for next December release. So I am really excited to read the book and to see what the movie does with it. What is so neat about the novel is that is also a picture book as the main character draws a lot of pictures, so the story is partially told through the characters art!

Just finished TIOHC! it was excellent! I think it is great story for people of all ages! It starts of being a historic mystery and turns into something magical, nostalgic, and heart warming!

Of Love and Evil is the second book in the Angel Time series continuing on with an assassin who unknowingly worked for 'the right man' (The Devil) and who now helps the Angels and Ultimately God. The series has time travel allowing for the protagonist to go even further back to help his oppressed persecuted Jewish family, but also fight an eveil demon... The Second novel was much more compelling than the first. I find Anne's narratives and historical and theological takes just as good as always. I hope a third book comes...

Timeline I couldn't finish. I think because I read it right after OLAE I couldn't get into Mr. Criton, whom I normally love...

The Island of Dr, Moreau I reread specifically to add it's themes to FRINGE discussion since we have had 3 characters with the name Moreau. H.G. Wells really astonishes me here with this work, because he shows how 'grey' man and beast can be and how the human condition can really be worse than animal, because of the capacity of great escapism by the ability to rationalize all actions and how the lines between pleasure and pain become blurred in sight of fear! A short 200 and some pages, I do think it's something that we all should read at least once in our lives...

Clara's grand Tour was a marvelous retelling and first time piece milling of a famous Rhinoceros who was brought from India on a ship when a baby, and who's Captain toured her all across Europe in the 18th century. The author did her best at putting the whole story together and not only telling Clara's and her owner's some-what pain stalking story and influence in Europe, but also an interesting read about the history of Rhino's in general! I recommend this for the animal lover and history buff!

I have to say my first experience with Charlaine Harris has been great! --Choosing to read Harper Conelley instead of Sookie Stackhouse was a good idea. I think this way I can appreciate what both Harris and Ball have done with out being overly judgmental, as I can still via reading this work see Harris' within Ball's adaptation, but also it's strange, because I feel Harper Connelly may go places where Sookie Stackhouse doesn't (I haven't read them, but I am speculating this because of the somewhat negative way many book readers have responded to True Blood's season 4), but yet I feel it is def where Ball has currently taken True Blood...

That is my exact list. If I hadn't finished "The Hunger Games" on Dec. 31st, it would be up there :P

I started the Dark Tower Series a couple months ago and am now on book 4, "Wizard and Glass". The first three books went by really fast but I find this one slowing things down a bit. Good luck and hope you enjoy them! :D

It's funny you say that because last year I started Wizard and Glass and ended up putting it aside and picked up other books instead  ...I still plan on starting it over this year, but once again I keep picking up other things first. I should just make a pack to band all other books until I finish reading it. :|

The first 3 really do go by quick!

Yeah, Wizard And Glass almost acts as another Book 1, with King having to introduce all these new characters and a new setting due to the flashback...but like all of his books, after loads of character development it picks up in a very exciting way.

I'm almost finished but I suppose what I didn't care for was all the romance and teen "angst". This just seemed to drag on and on as we wait until the final showdown. :bored: It was all a little too much like a romance novel for me! However, the showdown has arrived and I can't wait to get back to Kansas! :D

Alright! Between you and Finli O's encouragement, I think I will happily start again, just as soon as I finish Clara's Grand Tour! :D

Only into May and I've already matched last years book total (which was shockingly low for me, believe me!). It does help of course, I read two brilliant trilogies which I couldn't put down :D
