What Are You Currently Reading?

Postby Bella on Thu May 08, 2008 8:24 pm

I'm reading the His Dark Materials trilogy (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife and the Amber Spyglass) by Philip Pullman, and the Chronicles of Narnia (I'm reading them as one big book, in the order C.S. Lewis preferred).

What about you?

I've read that book. I like Russel Brand but I found his book to be too self indulgent and (along with a dreadful appearance on Have I got new for you) it left me with a mild dislike of him. :( Although he is quickly redeeming himself with his most recent film. :)

I am reading The secret life of a slummy mummy by Fiona Neill. This is a light but hugely entertaining take on motherhood and I would recommend it to any women with children.

Currently reading The Darren Shan saga.

Not what I normally go for, but someone recommended them to me and they're quite enjoyable I guess :D.

I'm about half way through Slaughterhouse 5 By Kurt Vonnegut, it's really good, any fans of Lost or time travel stories should check it out. Just finished Return of the Native and Tess Of the D'Urbbervilles by Thomas Hardy for my English class and, although I appreciate the writing style, they are some really boring books, really dry stuff, would not recommend, lol.

I am currently reading Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. I <3 Gaiman. He has such an amazing style that sucks me right into whatever world he creates. I highly recommend Good Omens that he co-wrote with Terry Pratchett. It is funny and highly irreverent.

And I just finished book 1 of the Stephanie Plum series. I will definitely continue reading them.

I'm right in the middle of Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami. I've read every single one of his books, they're so unlike anything I've ever read. He's def my favourite author.

As for comics, I've just finished League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Black Dossier (Alan Moore). SO GOOD. You get these 3D glasses that are tucked in the back of the book which you use for the last chapter. :P

I wrapped up a few days ago The Host by Stephenie Meyer.
I have a bunch of unread books but(as usual) I read the endings and it's all very depressing.

James Patterson - Cross (and Double Cross waiting by my bed when I've finished Cross), murder novels that have been turned into a couple of movies "Kiss the Girls" & "Along came a Spider" were the start of a successful series. Morgan Freeman plays the character Alex Cross in the movies. I've read nearly all his books. You have to read the Cross novels in order to really get into the characters.

*edit* Pop Goes The Weasel, the 5th in the series was screen capped when we first seen Ben's bookshelf.
Spoiler (Click to reveal/hide)
Part of the story involves the main characters girlfriend, who is pregnant with his child being kidnapped and taken to an Island in the Carribean, where she gives birth.
