Evangeline Lilly pencil portrait

Postby blackandgray on Wed May 21, 2008 10:29 pm

This is a pencil drawing that I did of Evy.
I don't use blending sticks or any type of smudging and I don't use an eraser to create highlights.
Pretty much just a couple of pencils and a kneaded eraser for clean up.

Wow, such great detail! I like how you put the focus on her face by keeping the hair simple, great job!

Thanks for all of the kindness.

BearaceDougie-unfortunately I'm not in a creative industry...just a boring Records Management Officer but it beats the whole starving artist scenario. I do have a Bachelors degree in art, though. Great avatar, by the way. Hurley's Forrest Gump impersonation was hilarious. RUN HURLEY, RUN! "Mama always said 'life is like a bucket of chicken'."

I started stylizing the hair in my drawings for two reasons;
1) I had a lot of negative responses from instructors regarding my photorealistic approach. My college advisor asked me why I wanted to create photorealism when the camera had replaced the need.
2) My ADD seems to be getting worse and the technique I use for hair can be very time consuming. ;)

I have some other examples of my work at MySpace if anyone's interested.

Cheers.

Ignore your stupid professors; photorealism in art is amazing. Great job.

Wonderful drawing!

I wish I could draw realistically, but they always turn into cartoons!
