Man dies from spontaneous combustion

Postby DarkUFO on Sat Sep 24, 2011 10:25 am

A coroner has ruled that the death of a 76-year-old man was due to a rare case of spontaneous combustion.

It is the first case of its kind in Ireland and the first such verdict given by coroner Dr Kieran McLoughlin in 25 years. Michael Faherty's charred remains were found in his home after a neighbour had seen heavy smoke coming from the building. Fire officers who examined the scene were unable to explain how Faherty had burned so fiercely without setting fire to anything else.
