Space elevator on the moon within 10 years ?

Postby DarkUFO on Wed Jul 21, 2010 11:34 am

Entrepreneur Michael Laine believes we possess the technology to build a space elevator on the surface of the moon.

The idea of a space elevator has been around since the late 1800's, but despite big dreams and years of research, the low-cost, easy access to orbit that a space elevator promises is likely still decades away.

While Laine said he is still "emotionally very invested" in the concept of a space elevator based on Earth, for now he has shifted his focus to the lunar elevator.

A space elevator is the way forward in space travel imo, once it's built it uses practically zero power in order to operate  The biggest hurdle I see is making a strong enough cable to take both the force and stress of being suspended over such a great distance. I think he could be onto something by building it from the moon rather than from earth, but for me the loss of what the elevator is able to carry could make the project a little redundant

When both are in constant motion, I don't see how this will work exactly..... but awesome :D
