In Jorge's latest podcast he was talking about Locke and Jack's fight scene on the cliff. They didn't like the way the collapsible knife looked on it's way in to Jack's stomach so they decided they'd use a real knife to get all but the actual penetration and then Terry would switch knives and plunge the collapsible one into Foxy. They couldn't find a pad for under Foxy's shirt that looked right and decided they'd just go without a pad. The stunt coordinator stepped in and told them no, that he had to wear a pad because the collapsible knives hurt when they make contact so he found a pad for him that worked. They finally shoot the scene and somehow the knives got mixed up and Terry plunged the REAL knife into Foxy's stomach.
The stunt coordinator had many pads to work with that day, but only had one that was made of Kevlar and that just happened to be the pad he covered Foxy's stomach with so the knife didn't penetrate. If that stunt coordinator hadn't stepped in and demanded he wear a pad and then actually give him the Kevlar pad, things could've turned out very badly.
