Awwww, I'm sorry, Simp. I was kidding, anyway.

*hugs*

I'm not working right now either, while I deal with some health issues that have come up. Don't feel bad.

Gee, this was a toughie!

I have read all the Harry Potter books and loved them all (yes, I was one of those dorks at the bookstore at midnight on it's release date :ugeek: ) But, the HP books were written for a younger audience so some of the writing and plot lines were a little 'simple', for me (not slighting JKR in any way here, swear :D) .

LOTR is, of course, epic and always a great read. But it never really grabbed or fascinated me like it did for so many others over the years.

I am in the process of reading through The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, at the moment, and oh my! I adore it. The intricate plot with a multitude of characters, groups, clans, nations and alliances. Every character simply comes to life and the development and maturation is wholly believable and understandable. I'm currently on book 8 of the cycle so I decided not to go with an 'other' vote, but highly recommend it to any 'high-fantasy' saga fans :D

So what the heck did I vote? The Dark Tower, of course. I've read many King books but, had not really drawn many connections between them until I began DT. The scope and 'name-drops' from other King books, the 'meta' feel that the series has (an over-arching reality that many of his books work within), the fun of going back and re-reading other DT related books with DT in mind, and reading some of the other connected books that I had never really had much interest in until starting DT (ie; The Eyes of the Dragon). I'm just starting the last book in the series now and am torn between rushing through it to see was goes down and wanting to slowly savor the deliciousness.

Wow, bigsimpsin, no wonder you can be online so much.

I hate having to work...it cuts into my leisure time.

I love to read too, but some things get lost in the shuffle of my life.
Have read all those you listed, but like Harry Potter series best.

I used to read tons of prehistoric fiction [People of the Wolf, Clan of the Cave Bear, etc]
and tons of mysteries [Alphabet murders-Sue Grafton, Jonathan Kellerman, Patricia Cornwell]
Adventure like Dirk Pitt books by Clive Cussler [have all of them]
and Dragon books, Star Trek novels, Crichton, Grisham, Stephen King, All of the Cat Who mysteries, etc etc

Right now, I'm too busy to read I guess...but I manage to get online 2-3 hours per day, so it's a trade off.

I only watch LOST...no other TV.

A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. It has great characters, unpredictable plots and twists, a sense of gritty realism, and perfect prose.

I also love Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Dark Tower, and Shannara.

I have yet to read the Dark Tower series but The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and the Discwrold by Terry Pratchett are far superior to me the the rest of the options so i vote for them

Tough between LOTR and Harry Potter, but my personal preference is the HP series. After reading Deathly Hallows twice and went back to the beginning and read through all 7 again. Just like Drey, Sorcerer's Stone got me into reading and seriously enjoying the rest of the books that came.

I definitely loved Harry Potter, however reading the last one was melancholic, definitely seemed like the end of my childhood.

The Dark Tower is my favorite series. My favorite was The Wastelands. . .probably because I read it first. One of my dream amusement park rides is a ride on Blaine the Mono. . .can't you just imagine the horror. . . :D
So, who is this Mr. Bench anyway?

Anyone remember those Series of Unfortunate Events books?

They aren't my favorite or anything. Just surprised they haven't been mentioned.
